The Computer Room

Einleitung	Introduction
Der Maschinenraum ist das Herzstück des Museums - alle (augenblicklich aufgrund von Zeitmangel zumindest die meisten) dort installierten Systeme sind betriebsbereit beziehungsweise auf dem besten Wege dorthin. Obwohl der Schwerpunkt der Sammlung auf Systemen der Firma DIGITAL Equipment Corporation (mittlerweile HP) und hier vor allem auf VAX- und Alpha-Systemen liegt, sind auch andere Systeme, wie eine IBM S/390, eine IBM SP/2, HP-9000 und HP-3000 Rechner und viele andere vertreten. Im folgenden finden sich einige Panoramaaufnahmen (vielen Dank an Carsten Kress, der sie angefertigt hat) des Maschinenraumes sowie eine Reihe von Detailaufnahmen. Eine mehr oder minder (aufgrund des Zeitmangels mehr minder) vollständige Liste des Systeme findet sich hier.	The computer room is the heart of the museum. All of the systems (due to my lack of time it should read "nearly all") installed there are ready to be powered up and booted. Although the main focus of the collection (and my interest) is on systems from DIGITAL Equipment Corporation (now HP) and here especially on VAX- and Alpha-systems, there are lots of other computers, too: A wonderful IBM S/390, an IBM SP/2, HP-9000 and HP-3000 systems and many, many more. In the following you may find some panorama views (I would like to thank Carsten Kress for taking these pictures) of the machine room as well as some more detailed photographs. A more or less (due to my lack of spare time more less) complete list of the systems in the collection may be found here.

Das folgende Bild zeigt die Konsolen der Systeme, die im wesentlichen über einen zentralen Konsol-Server (eine VAX-4000/200 (auf der natürlich OpenVMS läuft) mit einer Reihe von DECservern) zusammengefaßt sind. Über dem Konsoltisch ist die Stromverteilung für die Systeme zu sehen. Im Rücken des Konsoltisches stehen ein DECwriter-Terminal, das als Konsole für zwei PDP-11 Systeme dient, sowie ein LG31-Schnelldrucker.	The following picture shows the consoles of the systems which are served by a console server, a VAX-4000/200, running OpenVMS, which serves a number of DECservers for the serial lines. Above the console terminals is the power distribution for the systems. Behind the console desk are a DECwriter which serves as the console for two PDP-11 systems and a LG31 printer.

Das nächste Bild zeigt einen Blick in den Gang, in welchem die Mehrzahl der VAX-Systeme aufgestellt ist. Auf der rechten Seite finden sich drei VAX-7000 Systeme, vier VAX-6000, von denen eine einen Vektorcoprozessor besitzt, eine VAX-8350, ein SC008 Sternkoppler, ein HSC70 und ein HSC95 Plattencontroller sowie zwei SW800 Plattenschränke. Auf der anderen Gangseite befinden sich mehrere Racks mit RA-Platten (SDI-Bus), eine VAX-11/750 mit RM80 Plattenlaufwerk sowie einige Micro-VAX-Systeme.	The following picture shows most of the VAX-systems in the museum (apart from those running at home or stored in the cellar). On the right side are three VAX-7000 systems, four VAX-6000 systems (one of which has a vector coprocessor), a VAX-8350, a SC008 starcoupler, HSC70 and HSC95 disk and tape controllers and two SW800 storage racks. On the other side are some racks with RA disk drives (SDI bus), a VAX-11/750 with RM80 disk drive and some micro-VAX systems.

Die letzte Aufnahme zeigt auf der einen Seite zwei PDP-11 Systeme (eine PDP-11/44 - früher mein zentraler Server zuhause - sowie eine PDP-11/34), gefolgt von einigen AlphaServer-2100 Systemen, sowie dem zentralen Konsolserver (der bereits erwähnten VAX-4000/200). Daneben findet sich der zentrale Netzwerkschrank, bestückt mit einem DEChub-900, sowie einem Gigaswitch, einem Hirschmann-Sternkoppler, einer MicroMAU, etc. Auf der anderen Seite sind ein großes Plattensystem von EMC, ein vollständiges IBM RAMAC-2 Plattensystem, die IBM S/390 sowie die IBM SP/2 zu sehen.	The last picture shows two PDP-11 systems (one PDP-11/44 - in former times my central server at home - and a PDP-11/34), followed by some AlphaServer-2100 systems and the central console server (a VAX-4000/200). Next to this is the rack which houses most of the network equipment, a DEChub-900, a Gigaswitch, a Hirschmann starcoupler, a MicroMAI, etc. On the other side is a large EMC disk subsystem, a complete IBM RAMAC-2 disk subsystem, the IBM S/390 and the IBM SP/2.
